Description
HAPPY HENS START FROM THE GROUND UP
Our Chicken Coop Sand is a washed sand made for coops and runs. It’s a coarse sand blend, soft enough for tender feet, coarse enough to drain, and easy to keep clean. Your hens get a comfortable place to scratch and dust bathe, and you get a run that doesn’t turn into a mud pit every time it rains.
WHY SAND BEATS STRAW, SHAVINGS, AND BARE DIRT
Drains fast. Rain soaks right through instead of pooling, so your run dries quickly, even in Florida summer storms.
Cleans up easy. Sift or rake out droppings in minutes. No soggy bedding to haul out and replace.
Soft on little feet. Our sand has a softer feel than many coop sands, so it’s comfortable for scratching, walking, and dust bathing.
Keeps things fresher. A dry run means less odor and fewer flies.
WHY NOT PLAY SAND?
Play sand is very fine, so it packs down, holds moisture, and gets dusty. Our Chicken Coop Sand is washed and has more body to it, so it stays loose, drains well, and holds up to daily scratching.
HOW MUCH DO I NEED?
Most keepers go 3 to 6 inches deep.
So at 4 inches:
4 x 6 run: 16 bags or about 1/4 yard
4 x 8 run: 22 bags or about 1/2 yard
6 x 8 run: 32 bags or about 3/4 yard
8 x 10 run: 54 bags or 1 yard (1 super sack)
10 x 10 run: 67 bags or about 1¼ yards
10 x 20 run: 134 bags or about 2½ yards
Add a little extra for settling.
PICK YOUR SIZE
½ Cubic Foot Bag. Great for small coops, top-offs, and anyone with just a car.
5 Gallon Bucket (U-Load). Scoop what you need, no waste.
1 Cubic Yard Super Sack. A full yard, bagged and ready to go.
Bulk by the Yard. The best value for bigger runs.
SKIP THE BIG BOX PRICES
Those little bags of coop sand at the big box stores add up fast. Buying local by the yard or super sack saves you a bundle, especially on bigger runs. Stop in and see the difference.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often do I need to replace it? Not often. Most keepers sift or rake out droppings every day or two and top off with fresh sand as needed. Many do a full change-out once or twice a year.
Can I use it inside the coop too? Yes. Lots of keepers use sand on the coop floor and under roosts as well as in the run. It’s easy to scoop clean and stays dry.
How deep should I go? Most keepers use 3 to 6 inches. Check the chart above to see how much you’ll need for your run.
Will it work for ducks? It can, but ducks splash a lot of water around, so the sand will stay wetter than it would in a chicken run.
Can I get it at any Stone Plus location? Chicken Coop Sand is available only at our Middleburg store. Give them a call before you head over if you need bags and they’ll have you ready to go.
